TRATAMIENTO CONTRA LA EPILEPSIA

RESUMEN

Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological diseases in the world. The prevalence is 5 to 8 cases per thousand inhabitants, with 85% of these cases in developed countries.

This new proposed treatment against epilepsy has a greater efficiency and lower adverse effects than the current treatments available in the market, and is based on a compound called D4 / D5 that blocks the formation of connexin hemichannels in the glial cells. Blocking the connection of the hemichannels selectively has proven to be very effective in preventing the status epilepticus that is caused by the overstimulation of the hemichannels.
