Supporting Researchers
UC’s Tech Transfer Office manages and drives a series of initiatives aimed at assisting UC researchers during the various stages of research transfer.
The tech transfer office aids UC projects in applying to leading competitive funding programs that finance R+D through state or government agencies such as Fondef, Corfo, regional governments, ministries, embassies, etc.
Moreover, the office assists individuals in raising funds from other sources such as private industry, foundations, international organizations, and others.
The UC Tech Transfer Office has specific programs providing financing, specialized advisory services and training to UC faculty and researchers, designed to build researchers’ administrative and entrepreneurial capacity.
Aid Programs
“Patenting for Tech Transfer” Competitive Funding
This competitive funding process—held every two months from January to November each year—is designed to aid scholars in protecting the industrial property rights of their inventions.
Every project involved in the competitive funding program receives solid feedback from a panel of industry experts regarding the relevance of the problem their technology addresses and the potential of their technology being adopted by the market.
Winners receive financing to cover the cost of a state-of-the-art patent search. Should the technology be patentable, researchers will receive personalized assistance and advise to devise an intellectual protection strategy along with funding to cover the patent writing and submission process.
UC Global Competitive Funding Program
This program was set up to build tech transfer capacity and entrepreneurial skills among UC faculty interested in bringing the fruits of their applied research to global markets.
Researchers choosing to engage in this process have access to various benefits such as, training workshops, paid travel expenses and per diems for two team members to participate in a two-week entrepreneurial ecosystem program held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and tailored mentorships throughout the duration of the entire 10-month program.
EduLab UC
At the UC Innovation in Education Laboratory (EduLab), staff members work on transforming the scientific achievements of university faculty into innovative solutions for education. Included among the services they offer are sundry assistance programs that provide funding and consulting to UC researchers, professors, master’s and PhD students from all knowledge sectors whose areas of research will have an impact on the education sector.
EduLab is located on the fourth floor of the UC Anacleto Angelini Center for Innovation at our San Joaquin Campus.
