Herpes 1 and 2 Virus Detection Kit
Summary
The prevalence of the Herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2 is close to 70% and 20%, respectively. These viruses clinically manifest themselves in the mouth, genitals, eyes, depending on the severity. However, there are other diseases that produce similar effects that can be mistaken for herpes and result in a misdiagnosis, which could imply taking inappropriate medication or prescribing antibiotics instead of an antiviral, thus slowing down treatment or even worsening the condition.
As a result of this situation, a herpes detection kit has been developed and, contrary to existing methods, this one provides precise and rapid results at a lower cost.
Potential Use
- Detecting and classifying the virus in an outpatient setting and at a lower cost.
- Could be used by physicians to determine the cause of infections and rule out other diseases.
Development Status
- TLR3 – Antibodies identified.
- The immunochromatographic platform and antibody packing is needed before a rapid kit can be designed (similar to a pregnancy test).
Advantages
Rapid and conclusive identification of Herpes Type Virus.
Intellectual Property
PCT patent request submitted.
