Geodbone Bone Filler Particle
Get the technology record
Summary
Geodbone consists of a synthetic particle that promotes rapid bone regeneration because of its unique shape and porosity. It can also increase bone height which provides a novel opportunity to surgeons specializing in dental implants.
Potential Use
- Dental, especially in the maxillofacial area. It will allow for grafting jaw bones to prevent atrophy and facilitate bone rehabilitation following a titanium implant.
- Orthopedics
- Veterinary Medicine
Development Status
- This technology is currently at a TLR-3 level of development, with an expected four year time-to-market.
Advantages
- Very low risk of infection
- Very short recovery time
- Barely any morbidity
Intellectual Property
- PCT patent requested but the entry stage for national phases has not yet begun.
- August 2017 priority
Opportunity
- The GeodBone™ geodesic particle will make it possible to graft medium-sized fractures which until now have not been grafted given the high cost of existing alternatives; it will also make it possible to graft jaw bones thereby preventing atrophy and allowing for rehabilitation following a titanium implant. Moreover, this technology will reduce the risk of infection and recovery times by 50% and 30%, respectively.
- Currently, it is quite challenging for the anatomy and functionality of a damaged bone to recover quickly so that the patient can return to his/her daily routine as quickly as possible.
- The gold-standard for grafting is using bone taken from the patient itself, which constitutes a medical procedure that is more aggressive that treating the wound since an additional procedure is necessary. As a result, synthetic particles have been developed to replace the use of a patient’s own bone; however, the particles available on the market today do not produce the best possible bone regeneration.
- Globally, the dental implant market has grown steadily at 5% annually according to a GlobalData report. According to estimates, it will be a 5.9 million-dollar market by 2025.
