Sueñaletras: Software for teaching deaf children how to read and write

Sueñaletras is a teaching aid software that provides users with various accessibility resources, such as sign language, fingerspelling and lip reading. Its user interface can be easily tailored to meet the specific needs of users who can upload the vocabulary they would like their students to work with. This tool is aimed at children ages 4 to 10 with partial or total hearing loss.

UC Professor of Psychology and General Director of the Center for Developing Inclusion Technology (CEDETi UC) is the mastermind behind this initiative which is funded by the Interamerican Development Bank, Gallaudet University and the deaf community.

There are currently several versions of the Sueñaletras software designed for Chile, Mexico, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Cataluña, Panama and Pakistan, among others. All versions can be downloaded and used without an Internet connection.

The project received the Qatar Foundation 2011 WISE Award for being an educational project with an outstanding impact on education and society.
